Dear Friends and Supporters,
This month I want to highlight a basic foundation of Seeds In His Garden’s mission. SIHG has four goals they seek to provide every child who lives there: Physical Care, Emotional Care, Education, and Spiritual Care. Over the course of this year I hope to elaborate on each of these, what they mean, how they are implemented, the challenges faced, and why they are so important.
This month we will focus on what it means for SIHG to provide physical care. Part of providing physical care is basic and simple. The children at SIHG are provided, food, shelter, clothing, and other basic necessities they need to survive. Simple physical needs can be new to some of the children entering SIHG. Many have not had their own bed in a home where they are safe from those outside (and sadly inside), and receive regular nutritious meals.
I would like to highlight nutrition this month. The majority of kids when they arrive are malnourished. Many need to be placed on special diets to allow their bodies to recover from the damage done to them by inadequate and improper food. The staff at SIHG makes a nutrition plan for each child. Most of the children are not used to getting regular meals, which impacts how their bodies process foods. Providing three nutritious meals a day is fundamental to everything SIHG does. Did you know SIHG is has nearly ten acres of farmland as part of their compound where they grow their own produce, providing the children at SIHG with fresh fruits and vegetables?
Becky told me she cannot care for any child emotionally or spiritually until they are healed physically. Small things like clothes that fit, warm clothes for when it is cold, shoes which are the proper size, and clean blankets help create the environment of love and shelter each child needs to thrive.
Lastly, the children are given proper medical care. A great example of this was last year young Clinton came to the home with severe burns on his legs. SIHG (aided by many generous donors) got him the care he needed and today he is a healthy and growing young child. Other examples are getting the children’s eyes tested and providing them proper eyewear. How can a child succeed at school if they cannot see while in school? Access to medical care is sadly a luxury in much of the world, but it is a priority at SIHG. Physical care is the 1st step at SIHG to raising each child to reach their full potential.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Baloian
Meet Board Member Nic Campos: Nic joined the SIHG board in 2019.
My name is Nic Campos and I had the privilege to live and work with SIHG in Kenya from October 2010 to January 2013. I was there while Seeds transitioned to the ranch at Kittengala. Seeds In His Garden is important to me because it is a place where anyone can help make a differnce in people’s lives. Not only that but your life changes and grows in the process. Becky is raising some truly special children and each one has the ability to make a change in the world. My favorite thing about SIHG is no matter if you’re there for a day or a year, no two days are the same and everyday is special in some way.
Currently I work in Audio/Video and in my spare time I enjoy helping my step-brother out with the goats, and playing basketball.
I’m honored to join this board. Part of my responsibilities will be making trips to Kenya helping to enhance the communication with the supporters from around the world and the home in Kenya. I look forward to helping the home anyway I can.
SIHG Needs and Prayer Requests:
- If you have construction experience SIHG is working on building the Girl’s Home and would love somebody to visit and share their expertise.
- The rainy season is approaching. Keep Kenya in your prayers that there is no major flooding.
